Homeowners

National Committee

Habitat for Humanity targets families that possess a willingness to remove themselves from poverty housing but lack the resources to do so. Families that cannot afford to pay interest on a loan from conventional financial institutions can turn to Habitat for Humanity.

What is expected from the prospective homeowner? HFHG does not procure land. It is up to each family to apply for and obtain their own plot of land from the appropriate government offices.
Then the process is as easy as:

  1. Obtaining, completing and returning an application from the local affiliate

  2. Having a home survey by the affiliate to determine whether your family qualifies

  3. Completing pre-construction family education classes

  4. Earning sweat equity hours by helping others build their homes

  5. When a family takes the keys to their new home, they are expected to begin making timely payments on the no-interest mortgage.
